Abstract: This study investigates the impact of adult education on civic responsibility. Adult education is crucial for fostering civic engagement and responsibility among adults, which is vital for a functioning democracy. The objectives were to assess the effectiveness of adult education in promoting civic responsibility, to evaluate the specific components of adult education that contribute to civic engagement, and to identify barriers to civic participation among adult learners. A survey research design was employed to gather data from participants in civic-focused adult education programs, providing a detailed analysis of the impacts on civic responsibility. A sample size of 320 adult learners was selected to ensure a diverse representation. The purposive sampling technique was used to target individuals engaged in civic education. The case study was conducted in Abuja, Nigeria, where civic education is integrated into adult learning programs. Findings revealed that adult education significantly enhanced civic responsibility, with learners becoming more active in community activities and aware of their civic duties. However, barriers such as limited access to information and socio-economic constraints were noted. The study recommended enhancing access to civic education and providing additional support to overcome participation barriers.
